For Her

China plates crash against walls covered with peeling flowers,
Screams spread thick through the air
Dousing those they touch with firery anger,
While a small child crouches in a corner,
Clutching a frayed bear tightly to her chest.

Night approaches,
The black spreads through the town,
Swallowing everything,
The vacuum amplifying those throaty growls
Of vengeful parents.

The little girl covers her ears and begins
To scream.
The shrill cries of the child overtake the angry yowls of the adults
As a discolored flower peels off the wall
And floats silently to the ground.
